In a significant step toward disaster response and humanitarian support, the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, has approved an advance release of ₹20 crore as the second instalment of the Central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Nagaland for the financial year 2025–26.
This allocation aims to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation for communities impacted by heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides triggered by this year’s southwest monsoon. The Ministry of Home Affairs reaffirmed that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Amit Shah, is steadfast in supporting states during natural calamities — ensuring both financial backing and logistical assistance are made available swiftly.
So far in the current financial year, the Centre has already disbursed ₹15,554 crore to 27 states under the SDRF, along with ₹2,267.44 crore to 15 states from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Further, ₹4,571.30 crore has been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states, and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.
The government’s proactive measures extend beyond financial aid. It has also deployed NDRF, Army, and Air Force units to assist states ravaged by floods and landslides. This monsoon season recorded the largest-ever deployment of 199 NDRF teams across 30 States and Union Territories, emphasizing the Centre’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring rapid recovery.
