Thailand is preparing to roll back its 60-day visa-free entry scheme as part of a broader effort to tighten control over incoming tourists and reshape its travel strategy. According to recent reports, the government is reviewing its visa policies following a trial period, taking into account feedback from various agencies.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul highlighted that the shift is focused on attracting higher-quality visitors who stay longer and contribute more meaningfully to the economy. The proposal under consideration includes ending visa-free entry for all countries and returning to previous visa requirements.
In addition, Thailand is exploring the introduction of new visa categories tailored to different nationalities, aiming to create a more structured and selective entry system. Authorities are also planning to enforce stricter screening measures, including deeper checks on travelers’ financial status, sources of investment, and supporting documents.
