Delhi Police have launched a sweeping security operation across the national capital ahead of New Year celebrations, resulting in the arrest of more than 500 individuals and the seizure of weapons, vehicles, alcohol, and stolen property.

The large-scale drive, known as “Aaghat 3.0,” was carried out to curb organised crime and strengthen public safety. According to Delhi Police, 504 people were detained under preventive measures, while around 150 others were arrested in connection with the recovery of illegal items. These included 21 pistols, 20 live cartridges, 27 knives, thousands of litres of alcohol, 231 two-wheelers, gambling proceeds, and 310 stolen or missing mobile phones.

Police further confirmed that 116 “history-sheeters” — individuals already under watch due to prior criminal involvement — were also apprehended during the operation.

Authorities say the crackdown is intended to prevent disturbances and maintain law and order during the busy holiday period, as crowds gather to welcome the New Year.

In the end, beyond statistics and enforcement, this operation is also about something deeply human — ensuring that families across Delhi can step into the New Year with a little more peace of mind, knowing their streets are safer for celebration, connection, and hope.
