KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — A powerful overnight thunderstorm has left parts of the Klang Valley grappling with flash floods this morning, affecting key highways and causing heavy traffic disruptions across the region.

By 8:32 AM, the official PLUS Traffic X account reported flooding on the Elite Highway at the Shah Alam Interchange, heading towards Seafield. The left lane was obstructed, causing a significant traffic jam. Motorists are being urged to find alternative routes to avoid further delays.

Additional flooding was reported on the NKVE at Km 9.1, where the emergency, left, and middle lanes have been closed off, contributing to long queues of traffic stretching all the way to the Setia Alam Interchange.

Selangor’s Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, highlighted that the areas hardest hit by the floods include Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya. A total of 86 homes have been affected, though no evacuations have been necessary at this stage.

In response to the weather, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning, expected to last until 9:00 AM this morning, affecting various states, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.

As the situation develops, residents and drivers are urged to stay updated and exercise caution when traveling.
