Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized the importance of pursuing every logical and diplomatic route to ease tensions with the United States, while making it clear that caution and skepticism remain essential in dealing with Washington.

Speaking through Iran’s state news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Pezeshkian stressed that diplomacy is still on the table—but not without vigilance. According to him, maintaining a level of distrust is not optional, but a necessary safeguard in ongoing interactions.

As the fragile two-week ceasefire between Iran and the US approaches its expiration this Wednesday, uncertainty continues to grow. American representatives are reportedly en route to Islamabad to engage in talks concerning Iran. However, Tehran has yet to confirm whether it will participate in these discussions, leaving the future of negotiations hanging in the balance.

Adding to the uncertainty, Iranian state television cited an informed source claiming that a second round of negotiations is unlikely. The reason? Allegedly “excessive and irrational” demands from the US, along with shifting positions that have made meaningful dialogue increasingly difficult.

Meanwhile, tensions have escalated around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz—a key global oil transit route. Iran has reportedly tightened its control over maritime traffic in the region, while the US continues its blockade of Iranian ports. In a recent development, US forces seized a vessel attempting to bypass the blockade, further intensifying the standoff.

Both nations have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement. Pezeshkian pointed to the ongoing US blockade as evidence that Washington may be reverting to old patterns—undermining trust and weakening the very foundation of diplomacy.
